Last week, a young Saudi man was sentenced to four months in jail and ninety lashings after being arrested by religious police for kissing and hugging a woman in the mall. The couple was spotted on mall cameras “engaging in immoral movements in front of other shoppers.”
The job of the Saudi religious police is to enforce a strict interpretation of Islam, which does not allow unrelated men and women to mingle freely. Many similar “kissing busts” have been made recently.
